About Principia School

A Special History

In 1898, Mary Kimball Morgan founded The Principia as a school for Christian Scientists, a place where students could receive an outstanding education in an environment that fosters sound moral values and spiritual growth. Principia now encompasses two campuses—Principia College in Elsah, Illinois and Principia School for pre-K to grade 12 in St. Louis, Missouri.

Active Christian Science Practice

Principia School is dedicated to helping its students become effective Christian Scientists. All faculty and staff members are active Christian Scientists who see each student as an innately good expression of God with infinite capabilities. Although Christian Science is not expressly taught, opportunities abound for students to study, pray, and practice Christian Science in their daily lives.

A Sound Moral Environment

Every level emphasizes character education that fosters virtue and prepares students for lives of integrity. Our standards of behavior call for honesty, purity, and selflessness in all situations.

Dedicated, Experienced Faculty

Our faculty members bring expertise and inspiration to the classroom, along with a solid commitment to helping every child succeed.

Challenging Academics

We offer a rigorous curriculum that empowers students to become active learners and confident problem-solvers.  Our school is accredited by ISACS (Independent Schools Association of the Central States).

A Close Community

Principians and their families develop close relationships based upon friendship, respect, and shared values. We support each other, appreciate each other, and grow together within a community that promotes individual healing.

“Education is not an accumulation of facts but an unfoldment of ideas. We are all working for the unfoldment of character . . . the subject-matter of the classroom is only the vehicle for the larger purpose. The vital thing is not merely intellectual progress, but it is spiritual progress. And this is the point at which Principia differs from every other school.”
