Whole Man Leadership Award

This scholarship focuses on three key areas: the study and practice of Christian Science, leadership, and commitment to growth in all areas of Principia's "whole man" education.

The award covers the full cost of Upper School tuition and room charges. It does not cover the cost of boarding. The scholarship may be renewed annually through an interview with the Scholarship Committee.

Eligibility:

Applicants must be new candidates for admission to 9th, 10th, or 11th grade and must board during the time they have the scholarship.They must also be unrelated (immediate family member) to a Principia employee or trustee.

Applicants must exemplify the criteria listed below:

  • be able to give evidence of interest in practicing Christian Science
  • have a record of commitment to academic progress
  • demonstrate evidence of leadership and service to their peer group and community
  • show participation in extracurricular activities such as music, scouting, athletics, student government, etc. (The level of achievement in these activities, especially athletics, is not as important as participation.)
  • be prepared to contribute measurably and positively to the atmosphere and quality of life in the dorm and at school
  • be committed to growth (spiritual, moral, intellectual, physical, and social)

How to apply:

In lieu of an application form, applicants must submit essay responses to the following questions:

  1. What qualities and skills should a good leader possess? Tell us about a leadership role you have taken either in or out of school in which you were able to put these characteristics into practice.
  2. In Education at The Principia, Mary Kimball Morgan, the founder of Principia, states, "Principia education should mean the education of the whole man . . . ." What should "the education of the whole man" look like and how might you contribute to such an education?

How scholarships are awarded:

In order to maintain the scholarship, students must continue to demonstrate high academic and citizen standards. Award winners must also keep their scholarship status in complete confidence and serve in our student ambassador program which supports student visitors. There is no application deadline for this award.
