Diversity and Inclusion

The following statement was developed in the 2017–18 school year by the faculty, staff, and students on the Cultural Competency Committee. It sets the standard for inclusivity in our community:

As Principians…

We value each individual as a complete, unlimited expression of God, divine good.  As Christian Scientists, we recognize our individual and shared responsibility to see all people, within our community and around the world, as limitless and inherently good, and to ensure that this view of others governs our interactions with them.

We create an environment in which each person connected to this community feels loved, respected, and valued, as evidenced by respectful interactions, kind acts, compassion, and freedom from feeling judged as a person. We do this through an ongoing educational process at both the individual and institutional levels.

We do not tolerate acts aimed at denigrating the humanity or identity of others.  We continually work to identify and eliminate unfairly discriminatory practices and to shed light on our own biases with regard—but not limited—to race, religion or religious practice, socioeconomic status, national origin, citizenship, sexual orientation, gender identity, learning style, marital status, age, physical ability, or family composition.

We are committed to developing ourselves as expansive, empathetic, reflective, and globally minded thinkers who recognize and value diverse perspectives, backgrounds, and identities, and who encourage equitable treatment in our community and the world. We educate all aspects of the whole person, nurturing intellectual, moral, physical, social, and spiritual growth in order to inspire Principians to be advocates for and agents of equity and inclusion.
