Dorothy Halverson graduated from Principia College with a double major in elementary education and music. She later earned her MEd in education with an early childhood emphasis from Maryville University.

Prior to joining the faculty at Principia School, Dorothy taught for five years in a multi-age, independent school. She taught the 3–6 year-old class as well as music for students Pre-K to sixth grade. At Principia, Dorothy taught junior kindergarten for 16 years before becoming early childhood director.
