Financial Aid

Every year, families from all income levels find they can make a Principia education possible for their children. Some receive help from relatives. Others discover ways to increase their income. Many turn to Principia for assistance. Thanks to the many donors inspired by our educational mission, Principia School offers a generous aid program and is committed to meeting each family's demonstrated need.

Our financial aid committee subscribes to the School and Student Service (SSS) to measure a family’s need for financial assistance. This service offers a confidential analysis based on the information provided on the Parents’ Financial Statement (PFS). We use the results of the PFS in conjunction with your financial aid application and tax return to determine the demonstrated need. Each family is unique, so we encourage you to submit additional information regarding any special circumstances that may not be evident in the PFS.

In situations of divorce or separation, the School requires all parents and any stepparents to submit tax returns. A family’s ability to contribute to their child’s education is based on the income and assets of parents and stepparents.

Financial Aid Deadlines
Returning families must submit a complete financial aid package by April 18th. Failure to do so will result in a $200 late fee.

Financial Aid policies:

Divorced/separated families:  both parents are required to submit complete copies of their federal tax returns including all schedules and W-2’s.  Additionally, each parent is required to submit a Parents’ Financial Statement (PFS) on-line with SSS.  The sum of these evaluations will be used in determining each family’s ability to contribute to their child’s education.

Parents who are not wage earners: the financial aid office will add income in the amount of $14,500 (annual minimum wage in Missouri) for parents or guardians who choose not to work.  Families with infants or extraordinary situations should make the financial aid office aware of their needs.

Upper School boarding students who receive more than 50 percent financial aid are not allowed to have cars on campus.
