Character Education

There is a lot of buzz about character education in schools these days. And we’re glad since we’ve always believed it to be an integral component of education. But the key underlying difference about character education at Principia School is Christian Science.

Here, character education means striving to see every situation as an opportunity for spiritual growth. It’s about honesty, clarity of thought, courage, consideration of others, and the desire to stretch intellectually, physically, socially, morally, and spiritually. It’s about helping students gain an understanding that encompasses far more than academic knowledge.

Character education and learning are inseparable at Principia School, and both happen in many ways in Middle School––whether students are listening attentively to classmates during a poetry reading, coming together and performing with poise for a musical program, or participating on an athletic team and learning how individual contributions enhance and impact an entire team.

Nurturing character is essential at Principia, and embedded into the Middle School program. We cultivate the values, confidence, and integrity that will benefit students in their high school years and beyond.

“The Principia takes the position that education in its fullest sense cannot be confined to academic subjects but includes the building of character.”
