Humanities

The Middle School humanities curriculum integrates the study of language arts, social studies, and drama. Over the course of a 90-minute period each day, students may study one or all of these subjects individually––or an intersection of the three. The program provides maximum opportunities for students to extend their understanding, make deeper connections between historical events and literature, and gain insight into the important role of verbal communications during any given time period in history.

Small class sizes and a self-contained block period provide great flexibility for lesson plans, class activities and projects, while a team-taught approach to learning allows teachers to better assess student needs, most effectively guide discussions and explorations, and build connections across disciplines.

The program concentrates on developing skills essential for future academic pursuits. Students learn how to read critically, think clearly, develop logical and effective arguments, write thoughtfully and in a well-constructed manner, listen respectfully, and work together collaboratively.

“Every day is a new opportunity for students to make connections and understand how the information being presented fits together. This is when learning comes alive.”
