Physical Education

Physical education is integrated into every Middle School day. P.E. teachers focus on skill development, individual fitness, along with introducing new games and activities. Students participate in soccer, football, basketball, team handball, tennis, baseball, softball, volleyball, swimming, and track. As new skills are introduced, teachers help students gain confidence in their abilities, and celebrate the effort, teamwork, and selflessness students put forth. This is the place to try new things.

A newcomer to Middle School P.E., Project Adventure helps students learn movement concepts, responsible personal and social behavior, effective interpersonal and decision-making skills, goal setting, risk-taking, and problem solving. Conceived and founded by former Outward Board instructors, Project Adventure is a school-based offshoot of that program. Although Project Adventure activities are coordinated by the athletics department, they go well beyond a traditional P.E. class, with greater emphasis on collaboration and teamwork. Students determine and agree to a code of conduct and then learn to cooperate, communicate, and resolve problems within the framework of that code.

“It’s a privilege to help our Middle School students learn to give unselfishly to others, turn readily to Christian Science, enjoy physical activity, and break down seeming limitations. That’s what we strive for in our P.E. program.”
