A Typical Day

While each day is truly new and different for every Middle Schooler, a typical school day may include:

  • Hanging out with friends before school in the locker area. Maybe even some time in the social center before classes begin.
  • Moving through classes during the day according to the block schedule; each class period lasts 90 minutes.
  • Attending chapel (a gathering where an inspirational message is shared) on Monday afternoon
  • Exploring individual interests by attending elective courses. Students choose either a band or choir elective, or take guitar lessons with an additional section of art class.
  • Attending Spanish class, taught by a native speaker.
  • Eating lunch with friends in the main School dining room.
  • Attending advisory—an ongoing small-group meeting with a faculty advisor and students from all Middle School grade levels.
  • Getting active in P.E. class by participating in soccer, football, basketball, team handball, tennis, baseball, softball, volleyball, swimming, track, or a Project Adventure activity.
  • Hanging out in the Middle School social center after school. Getting a snack at the bookstore. Maybe even playing a game of ping-pong or just talking with friends.
  • Conferencing with a teacher. Most teachers stay after school to answer questions about homework, and to work with students individually or in small groups.
  • Suiting up for sports practice. Middle School athletics provides an introductory experience to playing interscholastic team sports coached by Principia athletic staff. Students may choose a sport every term.

“Principia is more welcoming than anywhere I’ve ever been. It’s not just a school where you go to learn about academics. You learn about yourself. You learn to socialize with other people. You learn more about Christian Science.”
