Skills That Last a Lifetime
The applied arts help students find creative ways to express themselves, solve problems, and appreciate the beauty in the world around them through the development of personal and workplace skills. The two main groups of courses are: (1) Family and Consumer Science classes, which give students fundamental life skills in money management, culinary and meal planning, and sewing and design, and (2) Media Arts classes in desktop publishing of the school yearbook, beginning and advanced photography, video production, web page design, and flash animation.
A few other courses that fall outside of these categories but meet important student needs include study hall, keyboarding, reading, and study techniques classes. In addition, all freshmen take an ethics course and philanthropy/community service is a popular elective for those students interested in volunteerism, service, and leadership.
