Just Dance!
Principia’s dance courses develop students’ ability to communicate through dramatic, visual, and musical aspects of art, as well as their own physical skill and grace. Students come to understand that dance is the outcome of intelligent and purposeful physical actions that originate in thought. As they improve their technical skills, they also expand their creative and critical thinking skills by working with other dancers to choreograph pieces for a dance performance at the end of each term.
A dance basics course exposes beginners to the disciplines of ballet, tap, jazz, and modern dance. The students explore space, timing, and musicality, while improving their strength, flexibility, and balance. More experienced dancers enroll in the concert dance course to learn aspects of choreography, explore improvisation, refine their technical skills, and collaborate with others to create original works. Dancers play an important role in each of the Upper School’s major performing arts shows, including the annual spring musical production.
