Graduation Requirements

Basic Requirements

Upper School students are enrolled in at least five classes plus an athletic commitment each term and are expected to earn a minimum of 18 credits per year and 72 credits by graduation. The minimum requirements for graduation are:

Science
Electives
Arts
Physical Education

9 credits
9 credits
6 credits
9 credits
9 credits
6 credits
12 credits
Total 72 credits

 

Preparation for a Competitive College or University

The strong, successful completion of the Upper School’s minimum graduation requirements is an acceptable academic record for many public and private colleges and universities. For highly competitive colleges and universities, a student should take as many honors and Advanced Placement courses as possible and have courses distributed this way:

English
Social Studies
Mathematics
Foreign Language
Science
Art
at least 12 credits
at least 9 credits, 12 if possible
at least 12 credits, 15 or more if possible
at least 12 credits in the same language; if two languages, 9 in each
at least 9 credits, 12 or more if possible
at least 6 credits or more for a focus area
