About Us

About Us

Grounded in the teachings of Christian Science, Principia School is an independent, coeducational college-preparatory school offering innovative programs for Early Childhood through grade 12.

We welcome students of diverse faiths who value scholarship and are eager to grow in character, embrace opportunity, and pursue excellence.

Unfolding Character

Located on a beautiful, 360-acre campus in Town and Country, Missouri, Principia is a place where possibilities unfold. We know our students come to us with everything they need to succeed, we simply uncover their potential as we challenge them to grow in character and scholarship.

A Principia education focuses on developing the whole child—intellectually, physically, mentally, socially, and spiritually, preparing students for the next steps in life. We foster a challenging yet supportive environment where character unfolds naturally and talent is cultivated through boundless opportunities.

By learning purposefully, thinking fearlessly, and acting selflessly, our students blossom into tomorrow’s leaders. And they graduate ready to rise to the demands of the future—in college, in professional and family life, and as global citizens.

Well Established

Founded in 1898, Principia grew out of founder Mary Kimball Morgan’s decision to homeschool her young sons in order to provide them an education compatible with Christian Science—a limitless perspective and a recognition of everyone as God’s spiritual child, wholly complete, living purposefully in principled thought and action.

To start, a schoolroom was established in the loft of the Morgan family’s  two-story carriage house in St. Louis. In 1899, the school became official and was named Principia, the plural of the Latin word principium, homage to its principle-based educational approach. The quality and success of Mrs. Morgan’s educational programs quickly attracted attention, and requests to enroll grew. What started as a school for two young boys expanded to a coeducational community of students from across the country and around the world which includes both a School for students Pre-Kindergarten through grade 12 and a liberal arts College.

Purpose-Driven

At Principia, students learn what it means to live with purpose—fearless in thought and selfless in action.

Principia School is recognized for its innovative approach to education, developing future-ready learners and leaders. It remains grounded on the teachings of Christian Science, welcoming students from varying faith backgrounds from coast to coast in the United States and from countries around the world.

At Principia, the possibilities are limitless. Student-centered and future-focused, we foster creativity, critical thinking, and character growth to build the leaders of tomorrow. Beyond providing an academic education, we guide students in the discovery of their own, innate ability to create, inspire, and lead.

Climb

Future-Ready

Students are at the center of all we do. Because we want students to not merely know but to understand, we design the learning experience with a focus on outcomes.

Students learn in multiple ways, so our learning environment extends well beyond the classroom, throughout our 360-acre campus, into the broader community, and beyond.

Our hands-on integrated learning approach immerses students in boundless experiences, preparing them to thrive in college and beyond, become 21st-century leaders, and gain essential skills such as reason and leadership, courage and selfless service, communication and collaboration...and more.
