In the fall of 2021, Principia School became the first high school in the United States to host a formal mediation tournament—a distinction that set a new benchmark for student-led conflict resolution programs nationwide. Five years later, Principia continues its leadership in this space. In partnership with Teen Mediation International,
During the competition, each three-student team steps into the roles of mediator, advocate, or client. Working from cases modeled on real-world legal disputes, students must collaborate and craft mutually constructive resolutions that will be judged by a panel of experts, judges, and mentors.

By balancing compassion, logic, and clear reasoning, students are tasked with creating powerful arguments while remaining poised and respectful under pressure. The tournament offers students the unique opportunity to cultivate a versatile skill set that will serve them well into college and beyond.
This year, Principia fielded six teams, with three Upper School students each. Teen Mediation International offers awards in four categories, Outstanding Mediation Team, Outstanding Advocate and Client Pairs, Outstanding Mediator, and Outstanding Client. Lucy, Sophie, and Marley of Team 4 earned first place in the competition, with Principia teams earning top positions in each category. Congratulations to our accomplished Principians!
