Upper School Grads Share Their Gratitude

As the Principia Upper School gathered at Ridgway Auditorium this May to commemorate the Class of 2025, students, faculty, family, and friends looked enthusiastically forward while also holding a sentimental spot for the memories made.

Real-World Learning Makes a Real Impact

It's the age-old question: can any of us really affect change? What power do we hold to make a difference in the world or even our community? This fall, students in the Biology CoLab learned they have plenty—as long as they’re willing to try.

Upper School Seniors Launch into a Limitless Future

Senior year can be a whirlwind time. For many, it begins with the excitement of opening their first acceptance letters. We are so proud of our graduates and the acceptances they’ve received from colleges throughout the country.

Learning On Display in Lower School

This spring’s Showcase of Learning provided parents a window into the Lower School world as students seized opportunities to show off their art work, writing projects, Bible study, and even feats of skill and coordination gained during P.E.

Upper School STEM Project Recognized

Principia’s commitment to innovation has always been inseparable from its impact. That ethos might help explain how a group of sophomores was recognized in the 2023 International Technology and Engineering Educators Association’s (ITEEA) REACH challenge this past January.

Third Grade Abuzz with Learning

Principia teachers never rest in their quest to make learning more engaging—from bringing outer space to the Lower School gymnasium to trekking across Principia’s 365-acre campus, they constantly find ways to immerse their students in the curriculum. Third-grade teacher Sierra Farson is no different.

Middle School Students Delve into World Religions

At the beginning of the year, Principia eighth graders embarked on an expansive journey, learning about the five major world religions: Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, and Judaism.

“Arguing with Kindness”: Mediation at the Upper School

This fall, the Upper School Mediation team competed in the third annual National High School Mediation Tournament, which Principia founded and hosts. After months of preparation, students rotated as advocate, client, and mediator to argue their cases, resolve conflicts, and practice peacemaking.

Eighth Graders Create Civil Rights Museum

This spring, eighth-grade students completed a comprehensive unit, learning about the people, places, and events surrounding the American Civil Rights Movement. The culminating activity was designing and constructing a walkthrough exhibit that displayed the students’ findings.

Laura Shepard Churchley Visits Principia School

Upper School and College alum, Laura Shepard Churchley (US’65, C’69), recently visited the School to talk about her trip to space aboard Blue Origin’s Shepard spacecraft. Churchley is the daughter of Alan Shepard, America’s first astronaut to fly into space, and followed in her father’s footsteps on December 11, 2021.
