On January 28, Principia School celebrated the one-year anniversary of the grand opening of the Bill Simon Field House. In its first year, the new center hosted 235 teams participating in 1,298 competitions, with the Principia community packing the stands for events like Gold & Blue Night, pep rallies, alumni reunions, and more.
While the building itself has garnered accolades, the real victories aren’t in the brick and mortar or the scoreboard. Bill Simon Field House is providing infinite blessings where student athletes can realize their boundless potential and grow as leaders, teammates, and individuals who value perseverance, courage, and integrity. “The Bill Simon Field House at Principia stands as more than a state-of-the-art sports facility;” says Director of Athletics Shawn Brown (US'00, C'04). “It serves as a catalyst for spiritual and character growth among our students.”
The impact has been immediate. In the past 12 months, four Upper School athletes have been offered D1 scholarships from colleges around the country and the revitalized program has gained public recognition.
Brown continues, “The Bill Simon Field House is not just shaping athletes but nurturing individuals who embody principled character and a spiritual understanding that extends far beyond the playing field.”
"My heart is filled with gratitude when I’m in the Simon stands and it’s jam-packed with passionate and excited fans of all ages," says Head of School Dr. Merry Sorrells (C'79). "It’s a place that houses joy, pride, and triumph, and a place that honors a man who championed Principia’s vision for the future of athletics by cherishing and encouraging students to be their best."
