Principia School Hosting Free Public BioBlitz Event May 3–4 for All Ages

Explore the 360-acre campus with scientists from the Saint Louis Zoo, Missouri Botanical Garden, and Missouri Department of Conservation.

SAINT LOUIS, MO (April 30, 2024)—Principia School today announced its fifth-annual BioBlitz event taking place May 3–4, 2024, on Principia School’s Town and Country campus. The event is open to the public and free for all to attend with hayrides, s’mores and snacks, stargazing, bird watching, bat netting, insect discovery, plein-air painting, and more. Principia hosts students and the community as they explore 360 acres of forest, prairie, ponds, and creek beds alongside local scientists from the Saint Louis Zoo, the Missouri Botanical Garden, and the Missouri Department of Conservation. For more information and to register, visit: www.principiaschool.org/bioblitz

Upper School science teacher and Principia School’s Director of Sustainability, Lynne Scott, has been instrumental in bringing this nationally popular citizen-science event to Principia School. “BioBlitz is a fantastic event that brings students, educators, and community members together to build our awareness and appreciation of the natural world. Together, with talented scientists, we will work to inspire and inform others about the rich flora and fauna in the area.”

As a United States Department of Education Green Ribbon School, Principia is excited to be hosting its fifth BioBlitz. It’s a celebration of nature, a scientific survey of the plants and animals living on campus, and a learning opportunity for all ages. “We are excited to host this event for the community and for our own students,” says the Head of School Dr. Merry Sorrells. “This is yet another opportunity to instill an appreciation for nature and conservation while educating about how we can all make a positive impact.”
