On their way to becoming one of the premier high school basketball teams in the region, Principia girls basketball has been a shining example of strength amid challenge, grace through adversity, and excellence in the face of top-tier competition.

With a 23-2 record, a top-four statewide ranking, and back-to-back state runner-up finishes—along with junior Dasia recently becoming the all-time leading scorer in both boys and girls basketball in Principia history—the team knows what it takes to compete on the biggest stage. And with another postseason run on the horizon, the Panthers have proven that they can compete with anyone.
With only one senior on the team, it’s fair to wonder how a team so young has accomplished so much in such a short period of time? The answer, according to head coach Josh Spuhl, is simple: “There’s no quit in them.”

Committed to playing the sport year-round, the girls practice, play, and pursue greatness, refining their talent—their plays, timing, and accuracy—in search of excellence. And they have been rewarded by rising up the ranks of St. Louis area basketball in just a few short years.
It’s this tenacity that has created a culture where teammates lift each other up, refocus, and move forward together. That trust shows up in close games, tough losses, and comeback wins alike.
“What I love about our group is I've never seen our kids give up,” says Spuhl. “I just don't think we have that in us, and that’s what makes this such a special team.”

And this year, a demanding schedule against ranked opponents has prepared them both mentally and physically for a possible Class 3 title. Junior guard Nya, said of the fierce competition, “We're learning how to get through adversity and we're doing well—we're just growing every day and getting better.”
The Principia community is behind them every step of the way. Senior forward Nyja said, “I know my coaches and teachers believe in us, they have confidence in us, and they believe that we are limitless. And I just think having that support pushes us to be better.”
Grounded in effort, trust, and belief in each other, this team has already built something lasting—and they’re not done yet.
