Free Public BioBlitz Event for All Ages on May 2-3

Principia School, a United States Department of Education Green Ribbon recipient, is pleased to announce its sixth-annual BioBlitz event taking place on its Town and Country campus, May 2-3, 2025. Attendees will have the opportunity to explore Principia’s 360 acres of forest, prairie, ponds, and creek beds alongside local scientists from the Saint Louis Zoo and the Missouri Department of Conservation. This free, family-friendly event invites the community to experience two days of nature, discovery, and fun, featuring activities such as hayrides, s’mores and snacks, stargazing, bird watching, bat netting, insect discovery, and more. For more information, visit: https://www.principiaschool.org/bioblitz.

“BioBlitz is an amazing event that brings students, educators, scientists, and community members together to build awareness and appreciation of the natural world,” says Lynne Scott, Upper School science teacher and Principia School’s director of sustainability. “BioBlitz is about discovery, and it’s a joy to see the excitement in students of all ages. Last year, we found a record 101 species of birds within 36 hours of birding, and we’re excited to see how many different species we can find together this year!”

This is Principia’s sixth BioBlitz, which continues a rich tradition of providing hands-on educational experiences that inspire environmental stewardship and ignite passion for natural discovery across all ages. “BioBlitz is one of the Principia School events that I most look forward to each year,” says Head of School Dr. Merry Sorrells. “It gives our students, families, local scientists, and community members an opportunity to survey and celebrate the plants and animals that live on our St. Louis campus. It is a wonderful, scientifically based opportunity for students to explore and discover nature and the world around us. The s'mores are great, too!”

All events begin at the Principia School Mesa Soccer Field:
13201 Clayton Road
St. Louis, MO 63131
