Principia School’s sustainability efforts continue to gain widespread recognition. The School is one of six in the state to achieve Seedling Level in 2022, awarded by Missouri Green Schools.
Missouri Green Schools is a program designed to help state schools incorporate sustainability education and achieve stronger learning outcomes. The Seedling Level award is given to schools for “improving the health and wellness of students and staff, lowering their environmental impact, and providing place-based education.” To attain it, Principia tracks improvement, sets sustainability-related goals, and documents a sustainability-related achievement in at least one educational program.
Principia will continue to evaluate and expand its sustainability practices through the Missouri Green Schools program. “Documenting our progress towards becoming a more sustainable school has helped us to celebrate our wins as well as be more intentional about next steps that strengthen our sustainable footprint,” says Lynne Scott, a Principia School science teacher and sustainability coordinator.
