At Principia School, learning goes beyond the classroom and into the garden, woods, and even the chicken coop, where Lower School students learn by doing.

Join scientists from the Saint Louis Zoo and the Missouri Department of Conservation for a free, family-friendly exploration of our 360-acre campus. Enjoy two days of nature and discovery with hayrides, s’mores, stargazing, bird watching, bat netting, insect discovery, and more. 

For the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS)—a nonprofit that provides services to schools across the country and world—the “I” may stand for Independent. But when the group visited Principia’s campus this past February, the “I” stood for Inspire. 

True to its title, the weekend was abuzz with activity. Students and community members identified and cataloged the range of animal and plant species around campus, tracked turtles, observed planets through telescopes, spoke to experts from the Missouri Department of Conservation and the Saint Louis Zoo, and more. 

Principia School’s sustainability efforts continue to gain widespread recognition. The School is one of six in the state to achieve Seedling Level in 2022, awarded by Missouri Green Schools.
