Summertime Discovery

Summertime Discovery is a camp-like experience for children ages 4 to 11 (or entering grade 6). Our experienced program coordinators and energetic student assistants turn summer into a time of creativity, exploration, and play.

Our 2022 program operates for ten weeks and takes place on the Principia School campus. Activities include outdoor play, arts, crafts, science, sports, and swimming—all set to an imaginative weekly theme that creates experiences children will remember for summers to come! See this year’s themes and schedules below.

Weekly Sessions

Week 1: May 23–27 Out-of-this-World*
Blast into a summer of fun and adventure! Put on your moonboots and get ready to explore the planets, build a city of the future, launch rockets, and more!

Week 2: May 31–June 3 Creation Station
Get ready to think “outside the box” with creative expert Louise Elmgren! Work with a kaleidoscope of colors, shapes, and textures to discover your creative talents. (Please note camp will be closed Monday for Memorial Day holiday.)

Week 3: June 6–10  Wild Wild West
Pack your wagon and get ready for some old-fashioned adventure! Work together to build a frontier town, facing a new challenge each day.

Week 4: June 13–17  Animal Planet
Bring your favorite stuffie to discover the secret lives of pets and wildlife around the world.

Week 5: June 20–24 When I grow up
What do firefighters, chefs, architects, scientists, and teachers do all day? Find out as we sample careers, meet special guests, and create our own community.

Week 6: June 27–July 1 Mysteries, maps, & messages
Crack the code, solve the mystery, and find the treasure. Join us for a week of suspenseful fun!

Week 7: July 18–22 Arctic Adventures
Take a vacation from the heat! Discover the land, cultures, and wildlife that make up the Arctic Circle.

Week 8: July 25–29 Shark Week
What is it like to “swim with the sharks?” Separate fact from fiction swirling around these essential creatures of the sea as you plunge into the mysterious world of ocean life.

Week 9: August 1–5 Crazy Concoctions*
Measure, mix, and marvel as you unleash your inner scientist during this exciting week of experimentation.

Week 10: August 8–12 Camp Spirit*
Join us for one last hurrah as we celebrate a different theme each day: Medieval Monday, Tie-dye Tuesday, Wacky Wednesday, Theatrical Thursday, and Festive Friday!

*Due to limited space and faculty work weeks, enrollment priority will be given first to students of Principia employees, then to students enrolled at Principia. We welcome any families interested in our Summertime Discovery Program to be added to any remaining spots on the waitlist.

Send email to be added to the waitlist.
